React-based web application for the Vera Institute of Justice

The project

We developed a data visualization platform filled with maps and charts that allows users to visualize geographic and temporal trends in incarceration. The application includes breakdowns in trends by race and gender and includes geographic detail at the national, state, and county levels.

Our role

We built the tool from start to finish. We worked closely with the team at Vera to implement their vision. This included a close partnership with the Vera data team to determine the best approach for processing and managing data and deploying the application.

Features of the work

• We wrote the application using React with Typescript
• We employed Gatsby to dramatically improve speed
• We used Netlify to improve the build and deploy process
• We made the query API fast and flexible with GraphQL
